Oiled Regions of Alaska Foundation

Welcome graphic

The Oiled Regions of Alaska Foundation (ORA) was formed to help Alaskan communities. We receive and distribute donated funds for charitable purposes that benefit our communities and regions that were directly impacted by the Exxon Valdez oil spill in March 1989.

Each of us and our familes, friends, neighbors, and communities suffered from this disaster. We know that the long term damages from this spill continue to haunt our fishing businesses and affect our daily lives. And we know that any monetary damage award will not come close to compensating us and our communities for the permanent losses.

This is why we joined together to form ORA. We believe this foundation will help individuals and communities rebuild and recover by creating a premanent way to give back year after year.

Our Mission

ORA's mission is to build stronger communities through charitable grantmaking activities, which target the needs of inddividuals, organizations, and neighborhoods within each of the Alaska Coastal Communities. The Foundation will engage in a variety of grantmaking vehicles, including grants from unrestricted funds, donor advised funds, designated funds, area of interest funds, and supporting organizations.

Becoming a Member

We intend, through your tax deductible donation and support, to give grants to organizations, agencies and communities. This includes civic, cultural, eduacational, health care and social welfare oragnizations, primarily in the Foundations geographical area, in order to benefit their well being.
